To do:
A lot of early elements to be documented, like a scrapped story mode that would later be intended for Project DIVA X. Translate the kanji in the prerelease logo. And also translate the text in the demo footage on the person's sketchbook they're holding that relates to SEGA and Project Diva.

This page details pre-release information and/or media for Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA.

The game was a success at launch, eventually spawning several spin-offs and sequels, and for reviving the rhythm game craze in the 2010s.

Development Timeline#

In multiple prerelease articles, an earlier logo is shown with a less minimalistic and shaded look and a Miku standing next to it. This was later changed in development as suggested from the kanji from the bottom.

Screenshots#

Some screenshots from early development builds.

  • The results screen and HUD in-level look much different from the final.
  • In the final game, the rhythm gauge is blue, while in the demo it's purple.
  • Screenshots suggest that during development, they added a feature where during breaks, Miku would rate you on how good your gameplay was. This got cut out later in development, possibly due to it being unnecessary.
  • A minigame involving Hachune Miku waving a spring onion with a combo bar and Miku getting excited. This was also cut out later in development for unknown reasons.
  • The notes were also shooting stars before hitting the note before it was changed to normal PlayStation button symbols.

Demo Gameplay#

A video on YouTube shows a young woman playing Strobe Nights as part of the demo. It possibly seems to be a playtest video by Sega for feedback.
