GTV Jul. 1988 Early Footage#
Watch on YouTubeAt 2:27 minutes, footage was shown of a test version of the game, made especially for the developers, called: "Godzilla: EXTRA PLAYING VERSION" or just "ゴジラ;EP", which featured several interesting differences compared to the final version of the game!
Gameplay Differences:
- The HUD font graphics are different.
- Playable characters start at Level 5 from the beginning.
- Here, when Godzilla is at Level 1, he only has three squares of Life and Power.
- The volcano makes a falling noise after firing.
- During the battle against Mecha-Godzilla, Gigan's theme song is played, although slightly different from the final version.
- During the battle against Baragon, Mecha-Godzilla's theme song is played.
- King Ghidorah's theme music is the title screen theme music but sped up.

In the recording, there is a map that appears to be an early version of the Earth map, both because of the music played and its layout and palette, which are somewhat similar. However, it is noted that the background of the stages is of Saturn.
Boss Fight#

Final |

In the recording, the battle was much higher up than the final version due to the HUD being in a different position, being at the bottom of the screen; curiously, in the final version, if you modify the RAM to have the unused character Angilas, he will be much higher up on the screen in the battles against the bosses, possibly being leftovers from that.
Mecha-Godzilla also lacks the orange color he has in his final palette.
Famimaga October 7 1988#
In this magazine, some screenshots from an early version of the game were shown, but it is worth noting that two of the screenshots have practically the same HUD, both in the Life and Power counters, which indicates that they are probably mockups.
Mars (Unused Area)#

This area but in Saturn (Final) |

|
This screenshot you can see an area that was unused on Mars, interestingly here this area is using a gray palette on the ground and in the scenery different from the final version which uses a somewhat orange or yellowish palette, in addition its graphics are a little different, making the scenery appear less destroyed than the final version, and Mars uses a different palette making it much more reddish.
Saturn (Early Version)#

Final |

This screenshot we can see that Saturn has a different palette, which makes it have a much lighter shade, in addition to the fact that there are far fewer stars in the background than in the final version. The HUD font is different and the level number is together with the text written "Level" different from the final version which has a space between them.
Neptune (Unused Area)#

This screenshot shows that the moons in the sky of Neptune to all be the same size, whereas they are made different sizes for the final. Godzilla's breath attack is seen to span from his jaw to his knee and have a perfectly level top, but was angled upward slightly to the top of his head and his thigh. The screenshot was also taken in an area type not found on Neptune in either version of the game; the US version gives it all Mecha City spaces, while the Japanese version, which used a wider map, had a single jungle space at its center in addition to them (and occupied by Moguera at the start). Aside from Neptune itself, the moons are pinkish in color than the final version, which is green.

In this screenshot, you can see a blue floor in the boss fight, something that doesn't exist in the final version.
Fanroad October 1988#
In this magazine, we can see some content that is not present in the final version.
Scrapped Characters#
Angilas#
In this screenshot you can see Angilas fighting Mecha-Godzilla, which implies that he was actually in the game at some point, but for some reason he was discarded from the final version. However, his graphics and code are still present in the game.
Larval Mothra & Rodan#
In this screenshot, we can see something very interesting; Mothra in her larval state, which does not appear in the final version, with no remnants at all in the code. Rodan is also present, and while his graphics and code do remain in the game, they do not work correctly.
