This page details pre-release information and/or media for GameCube.
An early version of the start-up animation was shown at the Planet GameCube E3 2001. It features different effects when the cube lands from its path. The different effects in this startup features a bit of movement when the cube lands (the cube going up and down from bouncing). The startup sound for the pre-release of the console is the same as the modern release of the console and was added in the video because the original video didn't have the startup sound. The video above comes from this YouTube link by Media Eater. https://youtu.be/ETJ8A_TiOjI?t=49

The very first version of the GameCube was called Nintendo Dolphin. It was found on August 2024 by ConsoleVariations.
- The logo visibly takes after that of the N64, bearing no resemblance to the Dolphin logo found on other developmental material and inside one of the final system's chips. Of note is that the logo appears to be constructed from an uppercase G, which in combination with the shape implies that the GameCube moniker was already under consideration.
- The console is made of wood and plastic. It has no software.
- The console had no ports on the back.
- The On/Off logo is in the center of the console.
- The controller ports were originally upside down.
Before this, it was seen in Rare Ltd.'s office since they had close connections to Nintendo at the time and were also sent one of these early consoles. The console was probably created in 1999.
