This page details pre-release information and/or media for Disney's Donald Duck: Goin' Quackers (Nintendo 64).
For more information not specific to this version but also to the PC/Dreamcast version, see here.
Early Music
Watch on YouTubeThe composer released his songs on YouTube.
These are very likely the original songs before they were sent to the developers, and thus, as expected, they do not contain any of the errors caused by the developers' conversion and editing.
Some additional songs that were ultimately not used in the game, as well as earlier versions of used songs can be found.
Unused Songs#
Jingle#
Most likely a win jingle, possibly intended for completing the level or reaching the goal in time mode.
Interestingly, the song can be found in the video between the milkshake songs.
Haunting Song#
A haunting themed song with some segments reminiscent of Under'hand'ed from the PC version. It could be a very early version of it or intended for something different, like a Game Over screen or a discarded cutscene.
Neither song exists in the PC/Dreamcast version, not even in unused form like the milkshake songs.
Under'hand'ed#
N64 scrapped song |
N64 final used song |
Windows/Dreamcast Version |
|---|---|---|
The actual Under'hand'ed song from the PC/Dreamcast version as a MIDI rendition. This supports the theory that the song was actually intended to be used in the game, but only became empty MIDI files in the final version.
The game, on the other hand, uses a short version of the song, which is unused in the PC/Dreamcast version and was probably not intended for this level in the first place, and the developers only included it in the N64 version to save themselves the work of “converting” the actual song (which consists of 3 segments, i.e. three MIDI files).

- The piano has different note lengths.
This difference is also not heard in the PC/Dreamcast version.

- The piano again has different note lengths in some places.
- The xylophone has a slightly different melody in the last 6 seconds.
Both differences are also not heard in the PC/Dreamcast version.
Haunted Hall#

The section between 0:32 and 0:41 did not exist. It is possible that the song was created before the idea of dividing songs into segments came about.
Magica's Manor HUB / Earie Alley#

A percussion note was not present at 0:34.
Other Differences#
- Some songs did not yet use reverb for certain instruments.
- The sound of the reverb was partly different. In the final version, it uses the same reverb as Rayman 2's N64 version.
- Some of the instruments seemed to use a different sample rate than in the final version, probably all 16000 Hz, which was the case in Rayman 2's N64 version.
- In the final version, they use their own appropriate sample rate depending on the sound of the instrument, so detailed bongos use 22050 Hz and softer ambient pad sounds use 7500 Hz.
- (Unfortunately, this was not imported correctly by the developers, which resulted in every sample being played incorrectly at 22050 Hz. This was fixed in the repair patch by editing the root key.)
Videos
Some early recordings survived on IGN's youtube channel.
They seem to be from a build similar to this windows build.
General Differences#
- Red gyroboxes gave out yellow stars instead of blue ones.
- Blue stars were simply available in the level, whereas in the final version they can only be found in red gyroboxes.
- Many models were different, including the teleporters, platforms and enemies.
- Different HUD icons, which can also be seen in prerelease images from the windows version.
- No effect when collecting a One-Up. It simply disappears.
- Entirely different soundeffects
- No music
The Track#
Watch on YouTubePlatforms moved faster, and had no momentum.
The Roofs#
- Was at daylight instead of evening, like in windows prerelease images.
- Instead of the unstable painter's rope platform, there was only a static chimney.
Haunted Hall#
Watch on YouTubeIn the place of the big red star was just a regular yellow one.
Creepy Corridor#
Watch on YouTubeThe spidernet trampoline was inside a chimney.
Artifact Way#
Watch on YouTubeLava was darker.
