All Apologies vs. Give It To Me#
Some previews of the setlist confirmed the inclusion of a mashup of "All Apologies" by Nirvana and "Give It To Me" by Rick James, but no such mix would be in the released game.1 Some years later DJ Shadow uploaded "high-quality "wet versions"" of some of the mixes he produced for the game, "This is what the mixes would sound like if you got a 'perfect score' within game, with all scratches included.".2
While the omission wasn't acknowledged officially in any way, a possible reason for the late removal might have been the controversy over the inclusion of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain in Guitar Hero 5, which released about two months prior to DJ Hero. Both Cobain's widow, Courtney Love and the surviving members of Nirvana we're unhappy over how the avatar of Cobain could be used to "sing" other musicians songs. After the release of Band Hero in the weeks following DJ Hero, the members of No Doubt would end up filing a lawsuit over similar concerns, with Love announcing her intent on joining them on the suit.3 It is also worth pointing out that no Nirvana music would be included in any future game in the series after this point either.
