Concept Art#

The Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online Official Art Book contains early concepts of characters seen in-game.

CPUs and Candidates#

The CPUs and Candidates have early concepts for their different classes.

Apart from Black Knight!Noire and Ninja!Ram, the CPUs’ class outfits had different designs in their initial drafts.

  • Neptune originally wore a short cape with a belt, as well as shoes worn over thigh-high boots. She also had an apron with a cross on it, and it appeared that her dress stopped around her chest area.
  • Blanc had a small cape, an even smaller hat, no sleeves, gloves, and a longer dress, as shown in the illustration on the right. The illustration on the left was closer to her final design, but she didn’t have a pouch, her corset reached up to her neckline, and the accents on her mitre was black.
  • Vert’s design in the right corner depicted her with a ponytail with a flower accessory on the left, brown gloves, a green-with-brown-accents one-piece bodysuit, and stockings with ankle-high shoes; she also would’ve had pointier ears reminiscent of the elf-type characters. The left design is akin to her finalized design, except with a flower-plate armor on her left elbow, as well as thigh-high boots.
  • Nepgear’s design on the right had her in a purple, detached-sleeved witch’s outfit, alongside black knee-high boots. The last two drafts were close to her final design; however, the design in the middle didn’t have lapels, while the design at the bottom-left had longer and wider sleeves.
  • Uni’s design on the left had a black breaser, a short, light brown cape, a green miniskirt, black gloves under her gray gloves, a different belt, mismatched stockings, and gray boots.
  • Rom’s attire was more showy, exposing her armpits and hipline; her bow, skirt, and right-side armor plate was teal blue, the ribbon in her dress was pink, and her hair was tied in a ponytail. The second design, shown at the right, had a variation of her final design where her suneate shoes were shorter.

NPCs#

While Kiria and the angelic goddesses (outside of Purple Heart) remained the same, the other NPCs underwent design alterations ranging from minimal to drastic.

  • Bouquet’s initial design (pictured left) had a small neckline worn underneath her dress. Aside from that, her overall design remained the same.
  • GM had two designs:
    • Her initial design (pictured right) had a visible cleavage neckline with breasts to boot, alongside a greater emphasis on pink accents and green flower decorations. She also had brownish-purple eyes, and her flower decor would’ve attached to her hair instead of her veil, alongside small wing decors. Lastly, she would’ve had angel wings.
    • Her second design was much older, had a long sideplait, a dress with visible cleavage, and fairy wings and ears much like Bouquet.
  • Black Cat Princess has three prototype designs: the first (pictured top-left in the right illus.) depicts her with a differently designed dress with a longer shirt, knee-length boots, a heart-shaped pouch, and lower, puffier pigtails. The second (pictured-top-right in the right illus.) swapped her hair and outfit color, wore her in thigh-high black boots, and her crown is missing. The third and final design (pictured in the left illus.) was close to how she looked in the game, but she had little wings in the back of her outfit as well as form-fitting sleeves.
  • Goddess Purple Heart's top part of her gloves were circular, she had a strapless brassiere underneath her one-piece, and she would’ve had a garterbelt attached between her suit and boots.

Villains#

While Demon King Jester remained the same, Mine and Cheetah had different early designs.

  • Cheetah had two prototype designs that depicted him as both female and a kemonomimi (“animal ears” in Japanese); the left design used his final outfit with an addition short sleeves and wrists bands, while the right design portrayed him with long, black hair, a long dress with armor plates, and a pantyhose with strapless mary janes.
  • Mine had two prototype designs: the one on the top-right that dressed her in a an off-shoulder dress with sleeves and two mismatch belts, and her hair covered the left side of her eye than letting it loose; and the one in the left that depicted her with glasses, a pirate-like outfit with a garterbelt and bloomers, two horns, pigtails, and a devilish tail.

Miscellaneous Sketches#

Additional in-universe NPCs were conceived by Tsunako, but never made it to the game. These include:

  • Two, scythe-wielding, horned devil girls, with one having the body of a child and wearing a long dress, and the other depicted with a teenage-esque appearance with a more revealing outfit.
  • A devil girl in a witch’s outfit.
  • Feline girls, with two of them appearing to be even earlier designs of Black Cat Princess.
  • A wandering frog.

Histoire and Umio are also shown in the initial sketches, with the latter as a sea king-type knight as evidenced by the trident he’s carrying, which indicated that they would’ve been apart from the game before being scrapped for unknown reasons.
