December, 2021#
In-Game#
- Much simpler menu designs
- Cards all have different designs
- Spades and clubs suits share the same color, as do hearts and diamonds suits, rather than clubs and diamonds being colored differently apart from spades and hearts.
- Standard playing cards used to have a rarity value on them
- The Poker Chip icon used to be red instead of white
- Deck used to appear on the lower-left corner instead of the upper-right corner, or the lower-right corner like the latest version.
- Discarding cards would put them in a discard pile section that was later removed in the August, 2022 prototype.
- The game would only tell you the type of hand selected after playing it.
- After an Ante has been defeated, instead of the Cash-Out, or shop screens, you would be presented a screen to swap out two playing cards with special ones.
August, 2022#
Title Screen#
- Is called Joker Poker instead of Balatro
- You were able to move around all of the cards in the logo instead of just the A in the final
- Start Run would become Play
- Collection used to be Your Collection
- the Collection, and Quit buttons have switched spots
- Clicking Start Run would instantly go into the game, instead of showing the game settings menu.
In-Game#
- Round number used to be at the top
- Score minimum text and chip sprite used to be red instead of white
- You used to be able to see the amount of money earned in a Ante.
- A View Deck button is present on the left side, unlike the final which just has you click on the deck of cards
- No blind skipping is available
- You used to start the red deck with $3 instead of 0
- The Needle boss blind used to be able to appear as early as Ante 1, instead of Ante 2
- The deck buttons used to be above the hand instead of below it
- The number that appears above the cards lacks the shape under it
- Shop only has two card slots
- Rerolls used to start at just $1 instead of $5
- A scrapped Upgrade Shop feature is present.
- The Shoot the Moon card had more detail in the background instead of just white.
- The Sock and Buskin card doesn't have the white border that most Jokers in the final game have.
