This page details pre-release information and/or media for Astro Bot: Rescue Mission.

On July 2019, a PlayStation blog post would be made documenting features scrapped before the game was released.

Mecha Spider Robot#

A cut boss that Astro would've had to fight, called the "Mecha Spider". Intended to be a boss that would spit fire that the player would have had to use the shuriken gadget in order to cut its legs before Astro could give the final punch. Getting this to work right was tricky for the developers and so it was scrapped.

Repurposed Level Design#

You can see in the image that the third part of the canyon level would actually be repurposed into a lava themed level in the final game, so not exactly unused.

Astro's Dancing Feature#

Yes, before Astro's Playroom and Astro Bot, the devs were already thinking of giving the little bot dance moves, but unlike the future games, originally Astro's singing and dancing was meant to be an idle animation and be in-sync with the levels' background music, but since there are a huge variety of music tracks in the levels, this would've been a lot of work for something that could only be seen when idling. Luckily, the later two Astro Bot games would allow the little guy to dance by using the control pad on the controller instead of idling.

Multiplayer Mode#

This is a showcase of what the planned multiplayer mode was going to be like in the game similar to what Robots Rescue had with the option for a second player to join in, but instead of the second player using a UFO, it was three other players playing as three obvious reskins of Astro Bot himself platforming with the VR player. This was a cut that was pretty hard for the devs, but it was necessary because it allowed the game to play the best with just one player in VR.
