This page details pre-release information and/or media for Arthur: Buster's Growing Grudge.
This game was released for the same project as Arthur: Dear Adil, so much of its background information applies here.
- February 17, 2016: The team behind Buster's Growing Grudge brainstormed how to communicate the idea of a grudge to children, what it feels like to carry it around, and what it feels like to let go of it. They used imaginary creatures seen in episodes of Arthur as design inspiration.1 They settled on "a little green beast that would grow bigger as time went on," but as kids were not able to understand how overwhelming the grudge was supposed to feel, they had it weighing down Buster in the visuals. Their first attempt ended up going too far, as they were afraid it would be too scary for kids. The first iteration of the grudge attacking Buster had red eyes and sharp teeth, which were removed from the sprites in the game's data, and the visualization seen in the final game is different.
- August 16, 2017: A retrospective on the project says that a challenge was "creating a 'Grudge' that was memorable and effective, but not too scary for little kids."2
