This page contains notes for the game Isle of Reveries.

Save Format#

The save files are stored in `~/Documents/IsleOfReveries` on Linux and `%USERPROFILE%/My Documents/IsleOfReveries` on Windows.

The actual save content is in the files Slot#_Demo18_Auto.json for the autosave and Slot#_Demo18_Manual.json for the manual saves, where # is the save file number, from 1 to 3. The save format is uncompressed in the final game, allowing it to freely be edited. The save files are condensed to one enormous line, and many text editors may have trouble opening them. One option is to format the JSON using jq. For example: 'cat Slot1_Demo18_Auto.json | jq "." > Slot1_Demo18_Auto1.json'.

Not all the names are descriptive, with the majority of the identifiers being numerical hash keys. So far, the meanings of these hash keys are known:

138056905950153 - The screen transition to use when loading the save. Valid values: "", "ZoomIn", "ZoomOut", "WorldSwipeIn", "WorldSwipeOut"
338027125137065 - The direction Lief is facing when the save file is loaded. Valid values: "Up", "Down", "Left", "Right"
341432140055531 - The name of the map to load into when the save file is loaded.
353382595157519 - The X position of Lief when the save file is loaded.
379453019947000 - The Y position of Lief when the save file is loaded.
547354584060786 - Also contains the map name to load into, but its purpose is unknown. Change this as well to be safe.

Changing the X and Y positions can be used to go into a different screen on the same map, but it doesn't seem to work if Lief ends up stuck in collision or out of bounds.
