(Ding, Ding) Uhh, This Sucks#

Beavis and Butt-Head is one of the very few Genesis games that actually uses the YM2612's built-in retrigger registers. The YM2612's programmable retrigger (dubbed "SSG-EG" in documents) allows an ADSR envelope to repeat itself. In theory, this would've been used for music and sound effects in a game, but very few music drivers across the Genesis library even touched those sound registers. This is because Sega's internal manuals often told whoever was making a game to just not even bother.

In the case of this game, the sound of Beavis using the chainsaw and getting shocked by Buzzcut's classroom machine use the retrigger, and Yogurt uses it for a trilling xylophone lead throughout the song.

Because so few games ever used the retrigger feature, most emulators didn't emulate them until 2008, and consequently Yogurt and the chainsaw cutscene's audio were broken on emulators that hadn't implemented the retrigger yet.
