This page details development materials of Slender: The Eight Pages.

Footage#

The following footage is recovered from multiple builds either from archive.org or AgentParsec's YouTube Channel (who's testing videos were made public starting on June of 2025).

smtest1#

The earliest build available.

  • No textures for the walls or floor.
  • Only one page exists, most likely just to test Slender's mechanics.
  • For a few seconds, You can see the mouse cursor moving towards the page to collect it. This potentially meant that page collecting at this point wasn't as simple and actually required the mouse cursor for it to work.
  • No page counter.
  • No sound plays when collecting a page.
  • Pages don't have textures yet so they're just bland looking.
  • The background 'thumping' sounds after collecting the first page don't exist yet, same with the background music.
  • Slender doesn't have his own model yet.
  • The screeching static sound is completely different, sounding more higher pitched and louder.
  • There's no static when looking at Slender.
  • The player cannot get caught by Slender yet.

smtest2#

A more updated version of the build seen in smtest1, now featuring more pages!

  • More geometry was added to this early testing map.
  • Collecting pages no longer requires having the mouse cursor on them.
  • The screeching static sound is now from the final game.
  • Collecting a page now plays a sound.
  • The background music and 'thumping' sounds after collecting the 1st page are now added.
  • All the pages are close together for testing.
  • This build introduces the static when looking at Slender, but the static seems to feature a "shaky" effect that's completely gone after smtest3.

smtest3-4#

More finalized builds, now starting to look like the final game save for the playable map & lack of other details, some of this map's geometry is recycled for the final's map too. (like the wood pillars and the 4-way wall)

  • smtest3 features the pages flying in mid-air, with the first 4 pages close to the player, smtest4 places the pages in more refined areas, far from the player's spawn point.
  • smtest3 now shows how many pages were collected and how many are left, and the pages now have their textures.
  • smtest4 adds more geometry to this currently-unavailable testing map.
  • The ground on smtest3-4 are just textures supposed to represent the grass.
  • Starting from smtest3, the player can now get caught by Slender and lose. It also now begins to display the objective of collecting all 8 pages. And Slender finally has his own model.

smtest5#

Now actually starting to resemble the final game.

  • The intro was finally added, and the map is now from the final game although with some differences.
  • The ground has its texture changed, with the addition of dynamic grass for more detail.
  • The 4-way wall has completely different textures not seen in any available build.

Images#

Image from an unknown stage in development. From Archive.org.

  • Not only does the sky have a blue palette with stars and different clouds, It features sorts of "mountains" surrounding the map.
  • From the looks, the building in the picture is likely to be either the bathroom area or the house with the red truck, with notably different textures.
  • The geometry layout in this pic is nothing alike to any of the smtests or the final game.
