This page details development materials of Jetpac Refuelled.

Concept Art#

Issue #39 of Retro Gamer magazine featured an interview with the developers behind Jetpac Refuelled, including some concept art.

A few more artworks were later provided in a "Rare Revealed" making-of video released on June 2016. Made to promote the game's inclusion in Rare Replay.

3D Models#

Per the interviews, the game was originally meant to be fully 3D. But this was later changed to be a mix of hand-drawn images with Jetman still using his original model (albeit as a pre-rendered sprite)

Music Tracks#

The collection itself also contains three early tracks from this game as unlockable content.

Invaders!#

Playing around with possibilities in the planning stages of Jetpac Refuelled inspired this theremin-heavy piece.

Galaxy Groove#

The third version of Jetpac Refuelled's main theme, befitting the darker, more ominous art style being explored.

Back In Action#

A pacey alternative tune that captures the catchy chiptunes of the 1980s.

(not actually from Jetpac, see below.)

An 11 minute MP3 compilation of early music was also uploaded to Rare's website on October 2008.

"Alternate Themes"#

A medley of themes composed when trying to nail the right style of music for Jetpac Refuelled. In the end they were a bit too busy-sounding for the game. The final music was less fussy and more retro. From the start to 7min 16sec are the Jetpac Refuelled alternate tunes; from 7min 17sec to the end, a few tracks written in one day for a Microsoft XNA demo we worked on at Rare, a sort of Space Invaders game.

Both "Invaders!" and "Back In Action" were sourced from this compilation, with the description noting the latter was composed for an unrelated "XNA demo".
