Cog Attacks#

Within the SuitBattleGlobals.py file (which as its name would imply, contains the code for Cog battles), info involving scrapped Cog attacks can be found, alongside the Cogs they were meant to be used for. Both the accuracy and damage values for attacks are present, with occasional source code comments mentioning why these attacks were not used. Some Cog attack values have their numbers set to zero, likely because those values hadn't been finalized. All of these attacks are either commented out or have a frequency of zero so that Cogs in the final game cannot ever choose them, though there are rare cases where the game still tries to.

Carbon Copy#

  • Used for Flunky. According to the game's design documents, the Flunky would step to the side and clone itself, causing another Flunky to be present on the battlefield. This would have been the only attack like this in the game. Uses placeholder values, and has no animations defined.

Ditto#

  • Used for Yesman. Design documents state that this attack would have involved the Yesman copying the attack of another "Suit A" type Cog, specifically The Big Cheese. This attack could only be done in group battles, and would have been the only attack with this distinction had it been added. Uses placeholder values, and has no animations defined.

Penny Pinch#

  • Used for Penny Pincher. Uses placeholder values, and has no animations defined.

Re-org#

  • Used for Downsizer. Internal comments in the source code state that the attack was scrapped because the animation Toons performed caused rigging bugs. Would have likely been used had these issues not been present, as it appears to have been nearly completed. Uses the animation that was used for Spin and Synergy in the final game.

This is also the only unused attack to have its own dialogue, which is also in the files for the final game:

'ReOrg': ["You don't like the way I reorganized things!",
"Perhaps a little reorganization is in order.",
"You're not that bad, you just need to be reorganized.",
"Do you like my organizational skills.",
"I just thought I'd give things a new look.",
              "You need to get organized!",
              "You're looking a little disorganized.",
"Hold on while I reorganize your thoughts.",
"I'll just wait for you to get a little organized.",
"You don't mind if I just reorganize a bit?",
              ],

Song And Dance#

  • Used for Mr. Hollywood and The Big Cheese. Unknown why it was cut, as it appears on the trading card for the Big Cheese and has its animations fully intact in the final game's files.

Interestingly, the attack is not commented out of the code for the Big Cheese (likely due to an oversight), but the game will force the enemy to use Glower Power instead. As a result, the attack's stats are technically used in the final game, albeit likely unintentionally. Mr. Hollywood enemies are set to have this attack default to Razzle Dazzle, but the attack is commented out and has a frequency of zero, so the game never tries to choose it. This effect also applies to every other unused attack for The Big Cheese.

Cigar Smoke#

  • Used for The Big Cheese and Big Wig. The model of the cigar and the animation of it being used are both present in the final game's files. Although the attack is essentially complete, it was likely scrapped to avoid showing tobacco use in a kid-friendly game.

Gavel#

  • Used for Big Wig. Much like the cigar, the gavel is still in the final game's files. No animations have ever been found in game files or development data, implying that the attack was scrapped before it could be finished (BattleProps.py has comments stating that the gavel model "needs anim!", meaning that animations were likely never started on). Despite this, it still has its own animation type defined as ("gavel"), albeit fully empty. Design documents mention that the Big Wig was meant to point the gavel at the Toon, and a glove would extend to punch them. It's commented out of the source code, and even if it wasn't, the game would simply direct the Big Wig to use Finger Wag instead.

Miscellaneous#

While the UI referring to Cogs as "Suits" is still present in the final game's file naming system due to it being their original name, the original Suit type names are present as well. Bossbots are referred to as "Corporate", Lawbots are referred to as "Legal", Cashbots are referred to as "Financial", and Sellbots are referred to as "Sales".
