NEC's PC-6001 computer was launched in 1981 as a low-cost alternative to their PC-8001 line, and was primarily designed for home use. It later received two upgraded versions in the form of the PC-6001 mkII and the PC-6001 mkII SR, both of which had an increased memory capacity, as well as new features and graphics modes.
The original PC-6001 was also released in the United States as the NEC TREK in early 1983, but it fell into obscurity as the likes of Apple and Commodore dominated the micro market.
