Ending Warp#

This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.
Specifically: Try to figure out and document the actual nuts and bolts behind the crash and warp happening. Could be some kind of stack overflow, at least from my cursory observations in Mesen's debugger. -Yoshiatom

For whatever reason, certain precise edge cases with player animations causes severe memory corruption, often resulting in the game to jumping to the ending screen. Known ways to trigger this include:

  • Pressing up on the exact frame Zool starts teetering on a platform edge and decelerates to zero speed.
  • Getting hit and falling onto a trampoline at specific timings.

The reason the game jumps to credits is because the memory corruption just so happens to overwrite the memory addresses used for the current level ID and the "reached the end of the level" flag, and all it takes is for the level ID to be higher than $12 for the game to assume you just beat the final boss.
