This page details bugs of Zombieville (1997).
Skipping Rachel#
This video showcases the luck in not only the game not crashing but zombies spawning around you and not in front of you. The game is aware that the drunkard is dead and expects to kill you right away.
If you kill the drunkard, Rachel the succubus will spawn along with a number of zombies, and if you haven't found the silver musket balls she's invincible and you're intended to lose. However, if you sprint forward quickly you can outrun the zombies as well as force Rachel to despawn, allowing Matt to reach the transition trigger to the Graveyard.
This may leave the game in an unstable, unwinnable state, as it expects you to have the silver musket balls when you enter the Chapel but you don't and can no longer get them.
Red Eye Goof 1#
Watch on YouTubeIf you get hit by a zombie on purpose at the very beginning of the game, the game will try to kill by rapidly spawning zombies. Should you manage to go inside the Bedlam base and converse with Sgt Price, he will say "Now let me see your eyes...They ain't red...." before proceeding as normal, as the game assumes you're not infected and doesn't check for red eyes.
Red Eye Goof 2#
Watch on YouTubeLater at the Diner with Pearl and Richard, the game will again not check to see if Matt is infected, allowing the player to sellect "I'm still human!" and "Show eyes", which will lead to Pearl commenting that things are safe, even if Matt is in the process of decomposing.
Altar Audio Bug#
At the altar in the Cathedral, the sound of zombies spawning may start playing over and over, even when moving to other screens, and zombies will spawn infinitely at the Altar itself. Eventually the game will crash.
Other Bugs#
- Zombies may be able to strike Matt at impossible distances.
- The game will crash if Matt kills Colonel Martinez and Sgt. Price on the 1st floor of Bedlam Base, as it doesn't know how to handle both their deaths, even if you've explored all their interactions and conversations. However, if you stand behind the gate on the left near the two sliding doors, the game will stay running, though zombies will start spawning (Seen here at 36:00).
- Zombies may freeze in place when doors are closed on them (Seen here at 36:07).
- If you kill Richard inside the Diner and succeed in killing the resulting zombies, the game will crash as it has no handler for the situation.
- If you give Lavern's grandpa antidote and enter and leave the warehouse, he will be re-zombified. This will let you farm more zombie antidote than intended.
- The game may randomly hang with the music still playing after running for a longer period of time.
- The music may play random notes at high speed when sound effects are being played during a scene transition (Seen here at 00:31).
- Rapidly saving reloading may cause the music to stop. Relaunching the game is necessary to fix it.
- The music may get stuck on a note while using zombie antidote until the animation of Matt's face ends.
- Music may bug out and stop playing after driving around in the Humvee. Again, relaunching the game is necessary to fix it.
- Agne's brother's dialogue may randomly crash after he says "...I'm done for, boy!"
- The game may crash randomly when spawning and killing multiple zombies outside of the Bedlam base.
- Certain early game actions such as getting shotgun shells from the store owner or killing Rusty may reset, possibly caused by restarting the game. This may cause some NPC conversation options to disappear as the flags are improperly set.
- Simply talking to some NPCs may cause the game to crash.
- PFC Janise may give you shotgun shells when asked if she's hurt, which can cause the game to crash shortly after.
- If you sprint right after killing a zombie, the zombie's sprite will be launched in the opposite direction.
- There are some locations with no music assigned, while others may play whatever music is assigned to the last area you were in.
- If Matt is hurt by a zombie or an NPC, the hit sound effect will be whatever weapon Matt has equipped.
